• Park Stonewall National Monument This monument represents a watershed moment in the modern LGBTQ civil rights movement, when a week-long uprising in 1969 sparked sustained determination among LGBTQ Americans to fight for full equality and civil and human rights. The Stonewall uprising was a protracted struggle in which the LGBTQ community in New York City fought back against what had become regular, city-sanctioned harassment by the police. The spontaneous six-night conflict gained national attention and inspired a new movement for full equality and acceptance. Stonewall National Monument is the first national park site dedicated to LGBTQ history.
• Park Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument This national park site honors the family of Emmett Till, preserves the history of one of the country's most horrific hate crimes, and commemorates the struggle for civil rights that continues today.
• Park Craters Of The Moon National Monument & Preserve This rugged landscape features cinder cones, spatter cones and lava tube caves formed from volcanic activity in the Great Rift, a series of cracks in the Earth that runs over a stretch of 52 miles. In 1969, astronauts traveled to this region to explore its geology and learn how to identify scientifically valuable specimens for their Apollo voyage. Today, visitors can hike through unusual volcanic terrain, including the short but steep path to the top of the Inferno Cone where panoramic views can stretch as far as the Teton Range 100 miles east.
• Park National Mall and Memorial Parks A walk through the heart of the nation’s capital brings visitors face to face with larger-than-life presidents and visionaries, open park lands, and elaborate memorials honoring our nation’s veterans and military history. This green space in downtown Washington, D.C., includes more than 1,000 acres of land showcasing such iconic sites as the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Approximately 25 million people visit each year to experience this unique collection of structures and spaces honoring the nation, its democracy and its citizenry.
• Resource Regional Haze Pollution in EPA Region 7 Strong state regional haze plans are critical to restoring clean air and clear skies for treasured places like Mammoth Cave National Park, and Hercules Glades and Mingo Wilderness Areas. Unfortunately, states in the Midwest (EPA’s Region 7) are failing to adequately cut air pollution impacting these parks and wilderness areas and communities.
